Connie Stewart is Professor at the University of Northern Colorado, Area Head of Art Education, and directed The Center for Integrated Arts Education from 2006-2017. Dr. Stewart teaches Art Education classes at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. Her research activities include critical art pedagogy based on contemporary art and applied to the classroom, examining trans-disciplinary learning and exploring questions and questioning in instructional practices. Dr. Stewart holds a BA in Elementary Education (UNC 74), an MA in Visual Arts with an emphasis in Drawing (UNC 94) and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership/Aesthetic Education (TU&I 05.) She has received awards as the UNC Performing and Visual Arts Scholar of the Year, Colorado Art Education Association Higher Education Educator of the Year, the University of Northern Colorado Academic Excellence Award for Teaching Excellence in Undergraduate Education and the National Art Education Association Higher Educator of the Year for the Pacific Region. She and her husband, Bob, have four grown children and two grandchildren.
